This exception 1920s cape by the label Vogue Company is a work of art. It is most likely a an interpretation of what was happening in the Paris Haute Couture ateliers of the day. It looks to have been constructed entirely by hand and to very high standards. The cape is made from a luxurious creamy ivory silk that drapes to perfection once on. The collar is set high and tall so it stands up and frames the neck and face. It is finished with what I believe is rabbit. There are no closures to the cape but you could easily add a hook and eye if you wished to have it sit closed at the top of the neck. The cape falls to the knee area once on. On the upper portion of the cape a netted lace has been applied and the denser parts of that lace appear to be made out of a soft chenille type wool. This gives the cape an very interesting texture and a touch of contrast. This added layer also adds a touch of weight so the cape hangs perfectly. Inside it is partially lined with a silk chiffon. I see some deterioration and discoloration to the lining but was so infatuated with how the bottom portion has been scalloped and tacked into place at the end of those points to the outer layer of silk that I did not have the heart to remove it. It is an absolute treasure of a find and such a rarity to find a piece this old and in this condition considering it is entirely original. So many of the pieces you see at market these days at this level of condition have had restoration work done to them. It is still not perfect though, so please make sure you read the full description below. Overall great antique condition
Partially lined with no closures. I do see some thinning of the fabric across the interior lining with some small tears. The inside neckline has some discolorations and there is a discolored area on the outer silk on the one side. There is also general grubbiness to the back of the cape below the lace applique. I see some breaks in the netting of the lace around the cape. Please review the photos of these areas shown after the label photo. It is still strong and wearable with care and priced with all of this in mind. For an original piece that is now almost 100 years old I would rate this as in great overall condition. Should fit any size
Length: 42" from neck to hem and the collar stand 5" from the seam at the inner neck
Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.
